Plastic in a Sustainable Society

Posted 2018-10-22

For us, the sustainability of our packaging solutions is vital. Our business concept: ”Together, we develop sustainable packaging solutions with a focus on the customer experience”has been long lasting and is part of our daily operation.

Plastic is an often-disputed material for various reasons. What is often forgotten in this debate however, is the benefits plastics provides by saving resources as well as being a precondition for a sustainable society.

Packaging is the main function area for plastic and its popularity derives from a combination of positive features such as: versatility, strength, lightness, stability, impermeability, and sterilization abilities. The lightness of the plastic simplifies the handling in the whole production chain and results in less emissions during transport. If today’s plastic packaging would be replaced with alternative packaging materials, the carbon dioxide emissions would increase.

Our packaging is made of Polypropylene (PP), which is a material that can be reused several times without leaving toxic residue. Naturally, it is also approved for food products. The plastic we use are produced in Europe and fulfill the requirements according to EU regulations.

By working together to decrease waste, overconsumption, and overproduction, we can decrease the negative effects of plastic. We want to cooperate with all our partners towards process optimization. By doing this, the product development, production process, inventory levels, and transports can be balanced throughout the entire process of the end consumer, wholesaler, distributor, producer, and supplier. This results in an efficient use of resources of both raw material and energy consumption.

The use of alternative plastic materials and the focus on the product life cycle and recyclability are preconditions for further development of plastic packaging. We challenge these preconditions daily to get a more holistic understanding of the points that are brought up concerning the role of plastic in our society.

If you would like to find out more about our perspective on plastic and how we work with the questions, please do not hesitate to contact us at quality@lagan.emballator.se
